Skewness indicates the symmetry of the distribution about the mean. A value of zero indicates it is symmetrical, a positive value indicates the distribution has a right tail skew (more observations in the left-tail) that may be corrected with a log transform, and a negative value indicates the distribution has a left tail skew (more observations in the right-tail) that may be corrected with an inverse log transform.
