Correlation coefficients

Correlation coefficients, such as Pearson r, or Spearman rs,range in value from +1 to -1 to indicate the degree of association between two samples.

Correlation coefficients close to zero suggest there is no association between the samples.
Positive coefficients imply that the observations in the samples tend to increase together. As observations in one sample increase, they increase in the other. The closer the coefficient is to 1, the stronger association.
Similarly, negative coefficients imply that as observations in one sample increase, they decrease in the other sample, and vice-versa. The closer the coefficient is to -1, the stronger association.
